Honoring the Creative Craft of Composition – Choral Connections Weekend 2023
As we closed our 21st season, Vocális was joined by one of America’s choral greats, Jake Runestad. Jake’s visceral music and charismatic personality have fostered a busy schedule of commissions, residencies, and workshops, enabling him to be one of the youngest full-time composers in the world. His works have been performed world-wide by such groups as VOCES8, Seraphic Fire, and Conspirare.
COMMUNITY SING WITH JAKE RUNESTAD
On Friday, June 2, 2023 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Buffalo, Vocális hosted a community sing with Jake Runestead. The evening began with choral warm-ups and a workshop. Those in attendance were then led by the composer through a rehearsal of his music. All in the community were invited, and were provided music to take home.

It was a joy to have 140 in attendance to meet Jake and make music together. It was an inspiring evening of community and song. Participants were also invited to return and sing the rehearsed work on the Season Finale Concert concert alongside Vocális and with Mr. Runestad conducting.

CHORAL CONNECTIONS CONCERT FINALE – THE MUSIC OF JAKE RUNESTAD
Vocális closed our 21st season with an uplifting concert celebrating the music of Jake Runestad. We were thrilled to bring this exciting composer and conductor to Buffalo to connect with the Buffalo Choral Community. The concert included six of his compositions, several of which he conducted.
Emotions were high during this moving evening and entertaining concert. It was a glorious end to our Choral Connections weekend. See a few of the performances below.
